Maryland’s Oldest Fraternal Order of Police Lodge establish: 1936

The Thomas Pangborn Lodge 88 of the Fraternal Order of Police is the oldest, continuing operating FOP Lodge in the State of Maryland; being formed September 16, 1936 by members of the Hagerstown City Police Department.  Lodge 88 members are comprised of Law Enforcement Officers in Washington County Maryland from the Municipalities, County, State, and Federal Law Enforcement Agencies located in our County.

Lodge No. 88, Fraternal Order of Police, Inc. t/a Thomas Pangborn Lodge No.88, Hagerstown, Maryland was the eighty eighth lodge chartered by the National FOP in 1936. In 2024 the National FOP reports more than 2,100 Local Lodges in the United States.


We are committed to improving the working conditions of law enforcement officers here in Washington County and being the voice of those who dedicate their lives to protecting and serving our communities. In today’s climate of defund the Police we are committed to improving the working conditions of law enforcement officers and the safety of those we serve through education, legislation, information, community involvement, and employee representation. No one knows the dangers and the difficulties faced by today's police officers better than another officer, and no one knows police officers better than the FOP.
